In 1955, a confrontation between police and thousands of revelers erupted in New Orleans’ French Quarter during Mardi Gras. Roberts Batson sets out to investigate the incident. Newspapers confirm three thousand people rioted between two bars popular with gay men. Most members of the LGBTQ+ community have never heard of the event. Instead, they speak of the repressive times — and places of refuge, where they could come together and feel safe. The short asks what it takes to remember.
