We’ll Find Happiness is a passionate and sexually-charged romance between two immigrants, juxtaposing their past journey to the West with the fraught realities of their present in a new country. Moroccan refugee Saad lives in Canada with his lover Reza, an Iranian asylum-seeker, but their bliss is short-lived: Reza suddenly faces deportation back to Iran.
Having already witnessed the violence and persecution that face queer people in his homeland, he knows he’ll likely be killed if forced to return. But after Saad has a casual sexual encounter with an immigration minister, he sees an opportunity to save his lover’s life, even if it involves a dangerous deception. Capturing the precarious bureaucracy of the immigrant experience through an unflinching queer gaze, the film brims with complex emotion and desire as desperation begins to overtake their quest for freedom.
