Set in 1989 Norway, just after the fall of the Berlin Wall, with spot-on period music (The Cure, Jesus and Mary Chain, etc), high school student Jarle starts a band with his best friend and hooks up with Katrine, the girl of his dreams.

Life is going well, and then Yngve, a new student, shows up.

An interesting encounter in the shower after gym class leads Jarle to drop by Yngve's house one day, where the two boys get to know each other.  Yngve's taste in music and tennis skills open up new horizons for Jarle, beyond his day-to-day routine of band practice, getting drunk, and nailing his hot groupie girlfriend.

Jarle begins to have trouble balancing his need to spend time with Yngve with his obligations to family, his girlfriend, and his buddies and the band.  Sensitive and thoughtful throughout, while exploding with youthful enthusiasm and the pitch-perfect soundtrack, “The Man Who Loved Yngve” is directed with a deft touch and acted with a realism found only in great foreign films.
