Surfer bodies, tan and lean. Youth with no restrictions. The fun of the beach, the surf and the sun are relished in this lush and beautifully photographed new feature by Dan Castle. Tanned, chiseled and horny surfers provide an irresistible backdrop to the film’s focus on Jesse and Fergus, a gorgeous aspiring professional surfer and his gay younger brother. The only obstacles in the way to Jesse’s pro success are the waves and the ghost of his injured brother, once a pro surfing star, but now returned to the family home and drinking his woes away.
While Fergus tags along, drawn by the lure of the older boys (especially one willing new ‘friend,’ sexy Nathan), Jesse and his older brother face off in a surf and turf battle that is neither predictable nor clichéd. Castle’s film invigorates all the senses; he puts the viewer on the surfboard and in the water, capturing adrenaline-pumping shots of the surfers in action. Risks are taken, both by the boys and the girls they bring with them on an ill-advised camping trip to a secluded spot where only the brave need try the waves.
