Starline Lounge :: 2:30pm :: Sunday, September 21
Take a wild cross-country trip across the map of sexual liberation and meet today’s bi generation, from an 11-year-old boy to a 28-year-old female dancer.
While legal steps towards gay marriage routinely set conservative bells off on a regular basis, less noticed is the increased queering up of mainstream culture. Throughout big cities and the Bible Belt alike, being bi is cool: photos of emo boys kissing are posted by their girlfriends on websites, massively popular TV shows like “The OC” are depicting more youthful bi lovin’, and studies show that same-gender sexual experimentation is becoming more common across the board.
Directors Brittany Blockman and Josephine Decker ventured across the USA to meet, interview, and follow five individuals including 11-year-old Josh, sexually ambivalent son of a bisexual mother and gay father (Tarnation’s Jonathan Caouette); an 18-year-old black hip hop dancer whose frustration with a woman led to male exploration; and an avowedly bi 24-year-old writer. Along the way questions and theories are raised -- are male bisexuals really just gay? -- and discussed by “sexperts” like Dan Savage, ultimately painting a multi-hued portrait. Get ready for one heck of a sexy ride with the roof down. - Lawrence Ferber, PhillyFest
