CENTREPIECE DOCUMENTARY: We Were Here

2011 marks 30 years since AIDS descended on the world; WE WERE HERE (an official selection of the 2011 Sundance and Berlinale Film Festivals) documents what was called the “Gay Plague” as it hit San Francisco in the early 1980s. Focusing on five survivors of the epidemic and their gripping personal recollections of the ordeal, the history of this tragic time becomes an inspiring tale of empowerment as the community came together to face a threat that was initially ignored by the government. Award-winning director David Weissman (THE COCKETTES) brings a unique personal understanding to this time, having lived through it himself. Meaningful and memorable, this journey through incredible suffering and loss ultimately becomes a story of compassion, support, and hope.
