Strong beautiful women performing aerial gymnastic routines are just one of the many highlights in The Gymnast, a tale of middle age, coming out and coming to terms with one's life. Jane (Dreya Weber) is a 43-year-old masseuse who was once an Olympic gymnast until an accident forced her to quit. In an unhappy marriage, she survives by popping antidepressants and nonstop exercise. One day she returns to the gym where she meets Nicole, a gymnast/instructor, and her beautiful Asian-American student Serena, a 28-year-old aerial talent. Together they form an aerial dance troupe, and while training for a Las Vegas audition, feelings between Jane and Serena become intense. Built on humor and passion, friendship and love develops and everyone must face their secret desires, ambitions and themselves.
Winner of awards at Frameline in San Francisco, NewFest in New York and OutFest in Los Angeles, The Gymnast tells a passionate tale of one woman's emotional, physical and sexual awakening through the beauty and motion of flying through the air.
