Music videos and dreamscapes, transsexuals and a dwarf roommate, are all part of the unbelievable life (and sex life!) of Marieta, the unconventional beauty and star of her own dreams.
Born as Adolfo, with a distinguishing 20-centimeter something, Marieta is a narcoleptic, pre-op transsexual prostitute brimming with desire and a musical inner life. Director Salazar conjures up gorgeous footage, Almodovar-like camp, and those aforementioned music videos!
You see, when Marieta gets a bit too excited, she falls into a deep sleep, firmly planting herself into some of the most lush fantasy musical sequences this side of Chicago. These increasingly whacked-out and gratifying musical numbers feature material as varied as Madonna, Queen, and Ani DiFranco, yet are only one part of the adventure Murieta lives daily, torn between her moneymaking asset and her desire to see it gone forever.
Embodied with fearless grace by Mónica Cervera, Marieta remains the romantic heart that beats at the center of this delightful, accomplished film.
Attendees are encouraged to show off their finest drag-wear for tonight's film!
