"Striking cinematography and remarkable performances work together to tell a captivating story that reveals the struggles of refugees, the confines of gender and the power of love. This deeply moving, intimate yet universal film will stay with you long after the curtain closes." - Kirsten Schaffer, OUTFEST FILM FESTIVAL
Unveiled is the first film since Aimee and Jaguar to leave us breathless with its tale of forbidden love between women in a land where such relationships could mean death, both spiritually and literally.
Fariba is forced to leave Iran to avoid harsh Islamic punishment for a lesbian affair. While on the plane to Germany to seek refugee status, she is only allowed to remove her face veil when the pilot pointedly announces that they are leaving Iranian airspace. It is virtually the last time that Fariba is allowed to show her true self, as she's thrust into a series of political diversions and lies in order to save herself. Once on German soil, however, her disguise is nearly shattered by Anne, a beautiful blue-collar worker ready for someone and something new.
Officially "in orbit" (an official U.N. designation for asylum seekers who have yet to find a new country), Fariba is trapped by the arbitrary violence of exile under her new identity and the feelings she tries to control but cannot. The choices she is forced to make will haunt you as this film lingers in your mind for weeks to come. A must-see film.
