Manhattan attorney William Boyals has worked hard to escape his troubled youth in the Louisiana bayou, but no amount of success can prepare him for the demons he must face when he is forced to go home again. A childhood friend - much like William, African American and gay - has been brutally assaulted and lynched, and William vows to bring the killer to justice for the victim's grief-stricken mother. In his search for clues, William encounters an entrenched culture of good ol' boys and frightened allies, both desperate to maintain the status quo and be rid of the city boy once and for all.
Obstacles - and victims - mount as William is confronted with racism from outside his community and homophobia from within. His very life in jeopardy, Billie Holliday's famous anthem provides inspiration for William's search for the truth beneath the sultry murk of the bayou and for reconciliation with his own past. - Mitch Moore (for Outfest).
